What to do before & after you post

Have you ever sat down to write a blog post, amazed by all the those insightful words as they came spilling out line after line….then a short while later as you satisfactorily hit publish, you just sat back and watched as instantly the traffic streamed in, your comment log filling up with incredible questions and overwhelming applause, and all the while your stats flew through the roof ?

Well, it was a pretty good daydream, you must admit! Yeah...If only...right?

Yes, we all know that a blog post is so much more than just typing away at the keyboard, hitting publish and then calling it a day.  There are aspects to it that seem so trivial that even Maria Forleo, herself would forget to include without a specific agenda.   A blog post checklist ensures that nothing gets overlooked BEFORE you publish. If you are like me you need a template for just about everything.  This is a surefire way to do it right every single time you post.  Keep reading to get your own FREE Blog Post Checklist.

So what about AFTER you publish?  Well, there are even more seeds to spread on that trail of dreams... Dropping those links and images into a dozen different social platforms and blogs, hoping to get as many curious clicks as possible, can sometime feel like an endless abyss in the sea of cyberspace.  If you have a checklist you can stay on track and leave your seeds on tons of different sites to point the way back to your fabulous post!

I always  hope there's just one reader out there that finds my passion for writing to be to their liking and gleans some benefit from it.

I try to shine that "beacon" brightly, so that hopefully they will see through that fog of thousands of blogs and point their compass in my direction...

So what can you expect to see on The Blog Post Checklist? A blog post needs to be set up in such a way to easily flow for your reader. People are creatures of habit. If they see valuable content and it is creatively presented, they will want to return to your blog to see more.  Your Blog Post Checklist will help to create not just your blog, but essentially you!

The Blog Post Checklist outlines what a blog post should look like.  It gives you tips on what to put where and why.  So before you hit that publish button, you need to prepare your post completely...ok, let's start our Pre Party Post Checklist..

the pre party

Pinterest worthy graphic – I start off every post with a graphic that I specifically design to be used on Pinterest.  I usually use Canva to create this and make sure I have an ALT meta description connected when I upload it to my site. Oh and don't forget to name it something that represents your site.

Sub Headings – This is the highlight of every major paragraph and it makes it much simpler to scan a page.  We are all guilty of scanning, admittedly.  Some people like to read every word of a really long post, and others just skip right to the bottom for the FREEBIE.  If you have sub headings in bold they tend to jump right out of the page and beg the reader to stop and read them as they scroll down.  Hmmm...I just had a craving to watch Inkheart.  Go figure!

Images - I believe posts with photos are a must have. It not only gives your readers

something to look at, but it also shows them your style and (if you took the shots yourself) your photography skills. All of these can make or break an on-going relationship with your readers. The images you add may just be the icing on the cake for your most recent amazing post. I recommend about three images per post, with a bare minimum of one pinnable photo.

Links - Your post is pretty thirsty when it sets out on its first journey to find readers. Linking to other websites within your post, will supply it with some much needed juice. If your readers start to click over to those sites and the blog owners see traffic flowing from your site, they may, in turn send traffic back your way.  And don't forget about your own stuff.  Grab some links from your own posts and throw them into the mix. When readers click on your own content links, they are spending more time on your site. This looks good in the eyes of SEO.  Hey, by the way, if you are interested in another FREE ebook check out my TOP 20 MISTAKES MADE ON PINTEREST?  {See what I did there..}

Technical Stuff - Make sure you have chosen a category, some tags and a featured image (if you're into that). And don't forget a pre-filled tweet box, an opt-in area or some other content upgrade for your readers to get their FREEBIE.  And of course, you need an an SEO worthy title.  If you are curious how your post title stacks up, go check out its ranking here.
