So what types of content marketing should you be using?

Did you read the first installment of my content marketing series about... well, you know.. content marketing? If you did, then you know how it can help get more traffic to your site. But what kind of content marketing should you be using?

That all depends on your market and your readers.

We have already established that content marketing is a great way to get more eyes on your blog and also your products and services. So when you create your content strategy try to keep the end goal in mind.

"Content is fire.  Social media is the gasoline"

                                                                                                                                               ~Jay Baer

Say you want your readers to comment on a YouTube video, then where ever you publish that video, make sure you add a link to the video's page and ask them to comment.  Pretty simple, yes. But a lot of people will forget the most simplest things while they are creating content.

Let’s say you want your readers to learn more about a particular subject like tennis - because you eventually want to try to market your new line of tennis rackets.  So getting them excited about the sport is your first step. You could try using a graphic with lots of juicy information about how awesome tennis is and even throw in some celebrity stats as well.

There are hundreds of different types of content you can use to target your ideal audience. I will give you just a few ideas below, from the most commonly used ones. But if there is one that I missed, please tell me in the comments below so that other people might benefit as well, from your most amazing idea.

Content Marketing List of Awesomeness

Which of these will you use today?

Infographics are huge part of marketing and they are probably one of the most widely shared images out there.

What are infographics? They are images with interesting stories, stats or just bits of useful information arranged on them.

You can easily create infographics with just about any editing software like Photoshop or Picmonkey, Canva or even Word. You can also check out sites like where you can quickly make them for FREE.

Yes, memes.

They may seem cheesy, but they work. Most of the time they are pretty silly, but people flock to them like bees to honey.

You can create these just as easily with the same editing software as I mentioned above or you can find tons of them by doing a quick Google search.

Social Media

Whenever you update your status on Facebook or Twitter you are sending content straight to your readers so make it count. Give them something of value that they would love sharing with their friends.

You can create tons of FREE graphics with Canva for this or even share other people’s content.

With lists you can be very creative and I promise you will never run out of ideas.

Just pick a topic. Let's say you are writing a post about... oh, I don't know...maybe content marketing?   You will want to highlight each new paragraph with a bold heading to spotlight each item on your list.  So for instance, infographics, memes and social media. Wait a minute…I think I am having déjà vu?

You can create lists out of just about anything, like how to wash your car, tips on using a mac, why you need an email list, the best free editing tools online, ways to drive traffic to your site and...I am sure you are getting the idea.

Lists are easy and so helpful to your readers.  So go make your list post and then leave a link in the comments below to your “list worthy” content.

Videos are a great way to build your brand awareness.

Google loves videos, too! Create a quick tutorial about how to take photos for Instagram, make a To Do list, how to make a calendar or even show your cat chasing a spot on the ceiling.

People love to watch videos.

Yep, you guessed it, you are reading content right now.  Who knew??  Blog posts are an excellent way to create share worthy information for your readers.

Make sure your blog post has a great title, lots of keywords, links, images, graphics and of course awesome information within the post to entice your readers {wink wink}, to share your amazing posts with their besties.

Checklist are super easy and readers love them!  What better way to to share your awesomeness then with a list of what to do or what not to do about a specific topic.  A few examples might be 10 things to do first thing in the morning to be productive OR 15 steps to a clean car OR 5 small tips to a big lunch OR even 45 tips to a start a blog.

Roundups are a smart way to add links to your post without trying to jump on the backlink "spam-wagon."  You are not only sharing wonderful information with your readers, but you are also helping your fellow bloggers with some additional traffic to their sites.  They will be so grateful and may even share your blog post with their readers too!

Did you know that your email list is an essential part of your content marketing strategy?  Those fabulous readers that signed up to be on your list already love you and they want to see more of what you have to offer, so give it to them.  Send them goodies only available to the VIP's on your list.  Give them exclusive coupon codes or early access to special content.

Challenges let you connect with your audience in a unique way.  If you are running a 5 day challenge, your audience is expecting to hear from you for at least 5 days.  They are looking forward to the content that you will send them each day.  They won't feel bombarded by daily emails or social media posts because they signed up to get them.  This is your chance to let your best stuff shine!  Give them tons of value in those few days that all eyes are on you.

Guest Posts

Writing on someone else's blog is a great way to get your name out there.  Cast your shadow.  Spread your message. Wave your magic wand...okay, I went to far on that one... But you get the idea.  Guest posting let's you collaborate with other bloggers, to show people who you are and what you can offer.  It is a great way to make some amazing friends as well.  And if you were wondering, yes, I accept guest posts on this here blog. 😉

Oh, yeah! Every time you leave a comment on someone's blog, Facebook post, Reddit post or Instagram feed, you are adding content to the interwebs.  Seems simple enough right?

Say hello, give a shout out, or a thumbs up.

You are leaving your mark out there for others to see.  If you leave enough of those marks, they may even seek you out and connect with you in ways you never even dreamed of.
